Research Interests

  • Cosmic Origins Spectrograph – The Cosmic Origins Spectrograph was installed in the Hubble Space Telescope in May, 2009 as part of Servicing Mission 4. COS is the most sensitive FUV spectrograph ever flown in space and will measure the structure and composition of dark dark baryonic matter concentrated in the cosmic web of intergalactic space, and address a host of other questions about stars, galaxies and interstellar space.

  • Laser Frequency Combs and the Search for Earthlike Planets – Laser Frequency Combs are being adapted to support m/s and sub-m/s RV spectroscopy as part of the search for low mass, potentially earth-like planets. At CASA and NIST we're developing a comb for the near infrared to extend this search to low mass M and L stars.
